Sloped or Sagging Finished Floors Detectable with a Marble

A marble or similar round object that rolls consistently toward one wall of a room is physical evidence of floor slope caused by foundation settlement. Slopes greater than one inch over ten feet are structurally significant and typically progressive.

New Jersey second-floor joists typically span onto load-bearing walls that bear on the foundation. When the foundation drops, the finished floor drops with it. Underpinning restores stable support and often allows partial re-leveling during the lift phase of the repair.
