Exposed Ductwork and Beams Forcing Duck-Height Walking

Finished basements with ductwork, HVAC trunks, or steel I-beams that hang 6 feet or lower from the existing floor force occupants to duck while walking through portions of the space. The obstruction often means one zone of the basement becomes unusable despite being finished.

Lowering the basement floor by 12 to 24 inches provides clearance under these obstructions without requiring ductwork rerouting. It is often more cost-effective than relocating mechanicals, especially in older NJ homes where the HVAC serves a tight utility-room layout.
