Widening Foundation Cracks Following a Wet NJ Spring

Foundation cracks that measurably widen following heavy spring rain or a rapid snowmelt indicate active soil loading on the wall. A crack that was a credit-card width in summer may open to a nickel's thickness after a saturated March in Bergen, Essex, or Morris County.
