What types of basement doors are available (Bilco, cellar, bulkhead)?

Several distinct door types are available for exterior basement access, and the right choice depends on your home's foundation configuration, available exterior space, and intended use.

Angled Bilco doors are the most common residential style. The doors slope at an angle from the house foundation outward, shedding water away from the opening. These are available in B-style flat and angled configurations to accommodate different grade levels.

Corner cellar doors are designed for homes where the basement opening is at a building corner, allowing the door to fit into the 90-degree space without blocking a walkway or garden bed.

Along-side doors install parallel to the foundation wall and are used when the grade drops sharply next to the house.

Flat cellar doors are fully horizontal and are used in older homes with minimal grade elevation above the basement floor.

Custom diamond plate and galvanized steel models are available for commercial or high-use applications.
