What is the difference between sidewalk leveling and sidewalk grinding?

Leveling lifts a sunken panel back to grade to eliminate the height differential. Grinding shaves down the raised edge of the higher panel without lifting the lower one and it is faster and less invasive but only practical for lips under 1.5 inches. For larger differentials, leveling is required first, followed by grinding to finalize the transition.
