Does concrete grinding permanently weaken the slab?

Grinding removes a thin layer of concrete from the raised edge and typically less than 1/4 inch at the deepest point of the bevel. For a 4-inch residential slab this represents less than 5 percent of the slab thickness at the treated edge and does not materially affect structural integrity. The beveled edge created by grinding also reduces stress concentration at the joint compared to a sharp 90-degree edge.
