Can I install an egress window in a finished basement?

Yes. Egress windows are commonly installed in finished basements, and the installation process is the same whether the basement interior is finished or unfinished.

The exterior work, which involves cutting the foundation wall, installing the window frame, and setting the well, is not affected by the interior finish condition. The interior side requires cutting or removing the existing wall finish around the new opening to properly frame and insulate the window. The extent of interior work depends on how close existing framing, insulation, or drywall comes to the exterior foundation wall.

If you are planning to install an egress window in an already-finished basement, the interior repair around the new opening is a manageable scope. Scaldino Basement Solutions focuses on the structural and waterproofing elements of the installation. Drywall patching and finish work can be coordinated separately or handled by your finishing contractor.
