Water Coming From Window

Water entering through basement windows is a sign that the window well or surrounding foundation has a drainage failure. In New Jersey and Staten Island homes, this occurs most often during heavy rain when window wells fill with water faster than the soil can absorb it. The water builds up against the window frame, finds gaps in the glazing seal or the joint between the window and the foundation wall, and flows into the basement. Even a small amount of regular moisture intrusion causes significant damage over time, including mold growth on walls and insulation, wood rot in nearby framing, and staining of finished basement surfaces.

Window well flooding has two common causes: inadequate well depth that allows surface water to overwhelm the space, and missing or clogged well drains that cannot handle the volume of water during storms. Scaldino evaluates the full window and well system to identify the failure point, clears or installs proper drainage at the base of each well, and addresses any seal failures at the window frame itself. For wells that are structurally undersized, extending the well depth or adding a waterproof cover prevents water from entering the space entirely.
