Can floor lowering be done in a finished basement?

Floor lowering can be done in a basement that was previously finished, but it requires demolition of the existing finished surfaces before work can begin. Flooring, drywall, baseboards, and any floor-level electrical outlets or plumbing fixtures must be removed to expose the concrete slab.

This is not a reason to avoid the project. In many cases, homeowners use the floor lowering project as an opportunity to upgrade the finished space entirely, choosing new layouts, better insulation, and improved drainage systems that were not available when the basement was originally finished.

The demolition cost and the finishing work after the new slab is poured are separate from the floor lowering scope itself. Scaldino Basement Solutions focuses on the structural and waterproofing elements of the project. Your project manager will walk you through what needs to be in place before the floor lowering begins and what state the space will be in when we are done.
